Felipe Drugovich will end the year in style at Aston Martin F1.
The third driver of the team will in fact be doubly mobilized in Abu Dhabi, we learned today. He will not only drive in EL1, in place of Lance Stroll; but will also participate in the post-season trials (on the last day), alongside Jak Crawford.
“These sessions are in addition to the 8,200 km already covered by Felipe” in an Aston Martin F1, the team said in a press release.
Felipe Drugovich had already participated in EL1 this year, in Mexico. With its second one-hour session in Abu Dhabi, Aston Martin F1 will thus fulfill the obligations of the regulations (having a rookie drive at least two free practice sessions). Official simulator driver, the Brazilian will also take the opportunity to refine the team's tools.
“I'm really excited to drive the AMR24 again, this time at Yas Marina, a circuit I know well having done many laps there during testing” rejoices the former F2 champion.
“It will be great to see how the car performs in a completely different environment compared to Mexico, and I can't wait to capitalize on what I learned in my first EL1 session earlier this year. It will also be a great opportunity to familiarize myself with the 2025 Pirelli tires that the Formula 1 cars will use next year. »
“Driving the AMR24 is always a fantastic opportunity, and I am grateful to Aston Martin Aramco for trusting me for this second session as well as for the end of season testing. Many thanks also to Banco Master for their continued support. »
Mike Krack, the team director, praised the feedback from Felipe Drugovich, always valuable in the simulator (while the green team is just building a new one).
“We are delighted to offer Felipe further opportunities to drive the AMR24 during Free Practice 1 and the end of season testing at Yas Marina. Felipe demonstrated his abilities and provided valuable feedback during his free practice outing in Mexico, and these sessions will allow him to continue to build on the 8,200km of experience he has already accumulated behind the wheel of a car of Formula 1. Felipe's work during Free Practice 1 will directly contribute to our data collection and decision-making for the remainder of the weekend, and we know he will provide insightful and valuable feedback. »
“It’s fantastic to have two young drivers behind the wheel of our cars for end-of-season testing, further demonstrating our commitment to their experience and development. Felipe and Jak spend a lot of time in our simulator at AMRTC, and the time spent on track is invaluable for correlation, allowing us to ultimately improve their feedback. »
