Flash expulsion of Gregore, from Botafogo, breaks Libertadores record

The Libertadores 2024 final, this Saturday (30), had a remarkable event in the first minute of the game. Gregore, from Botafogo, was expelled after fouling Fausto Vera, from Atlético-MG, after 30 seconds.

Therefore, broke the record for the fastest expulsion in history of a Libertadores final, in more than 60 years of the championship — follow the game in REAL TIME.

The overall record belongs to Colombian Alejandro Bernal, who was sent off after 20 seconds in a match between Atlético Nacional (COL) and Nacional (URU), in 2014. On that occasion, the game ended in a 2-2 draw.

How was Gregore’s expulsion?

The midfielder of the Rio team mistimed the ball in a midfield move and hit the Argentinian from Galo’s head with the studs of his boot. Vera suffered an instant cut and needed to be treated.

Argentine referee Facundo Tello Figueroa initially pulled the yellow card, but soon changed the color to red after seeing Fausto Vera’s situation.

As a result, Botafogo will play more than 90 minutes with one less player. At first, Portuguese coach Artur Jorge, from Botafogo, did not change the team and left Marlon Freitas as the only midfielder.
