Mladá Boleslav footballer Matyáš Vojta considers Thursday’s duel of the 4th round of the Conference League against Betis Sevilla to be the biggest match of his career. The 20-year-old forward, who played in the second division Varnsdorf in the spring, said this at today’s press conference. On the one hand, Vojta regrets that the opponents will be missing the most famous names in the lineup due to injury, but according to him, this increases the chances of the home team of Central Bohemia for the premier point gain in the competition.
“It’s definitely the biggest match of my career. It’s such a dream come true,” Vojta told journalists “When I was at the intro in Varnsdorf six months ago, I could hardly imagine it. I probably didn’t even think about it, but as we progressed through the preliminary rounds, one is already thinking about the fact that one of those big clubs could get it. Betis is one of the strongest that the Conference League has to offer,” added the under-20 national team striker.
Currently, the ninth team of the Spanish league is suffering from extensive decay. Five-time Champions League winner Isco or Portuguese European champion William Carvalho are sidelined for a long time. In addition to the two experienced midfielders, right back Hector Bellerín and other midfielders Marco Roca and Pablo Fornals also have health problems. Vojta will thus lose a confrontation with a number of big names.
“I’m sorry or not, it depends on the point of view. Those players have immense quality and can break the match. You want to play against such players, meet them on the field. But then again, we have a little more chance to succeed. Even if they have a wide squad and the players in the wider rotation also have strength,” pointed out the Vyšehrad graduate.
The Central Bohemians lost all three matches in the league phase of the competition. Betis has four points. “We are facing a dominant opponent, probably the toughest in the Conference League so far. We are outsiders, we have to accept that role, but we believe that Betis will have a hard time here. We go into it wanting to score points. We are humble, but at the same time we believe in each other,” said Vojta.
Mladá Boleslav only managed a goal in the last round when they lost 1:2 in Guimaraes. Before that, they lost 0:2 at FC Noah and 0:1 at home against Lugano. Vojta is getting a lot of opportunities under coach Andreas Brännström and could start in the starting line-up even on Thursday. He scored two league goals so far this season and scored once in the preliminary round against Lithuanian Transinvest.
“Productivity is one of our weaknesses. We don’t create many chances, nor do we score many goals. We are trying to work on it. Against Betis, it will be important that we convert the chances, because there probably won’t be many,” added Vojta.
