The system that brought the rain on Wednesday is shipping out, so we are dry for Thanksgiving Day travel. But in wake of the rain comes some frigid air straight from Canada, which will push Thanksgiving morning down to the mid-20s. It will feel even colder, likely around 15, as a healthy northwest breeze at 15 mph adds to the bite. The afternoon only warms to the upper 30s, but aside from the cool weather, it will be rather nice. Sunshine and diminishing winds through the day help take the edge off the below-normal highs.

Black Friday morning shoppers will be even colder, with temperatures in the teens around sunrise and wind chills near 10. Friday afternoon will again be held to the mid-upper 30s with mostly sunny skies. Not bad for the Chiefs game, just a little cool.

We are First Warning you for the first snow of the season on Saturday. It likely starts in the Kansas City area just before sunrise, though it could begin sooner in northwest Missouri. This will be a compact and speed weather system, what we call an “Alberta Clipper.” Because it’s small and brings a narrow stripe of snow, there’s a chance its trajectory could shift and miss our area. But we have seen it consistently wanting to target our area for several days now, so the trend is favorable for snow. The “meat” of the snow looks to be mid-morning Saturday, with an end coming by early afternoon. Of course it is winter weather and how much we could get may change, but at the moment, a dusting to 2″ seems reasonable. In general, the better chance for accumulation is along and north of I-70, with lower odds south.

We end the weekend with yet another shot of frigid air behind the snow, with Sunday morning dropping to the mid-teens. Warmer highs near 50 return by the middle of next week.
