Martin Ajdari was proposed by Emmanuel Macron to take over as president of Arcom.
MEDIA – The succession at the head of Arcom is becoming clearer. Emmanuel Macron has given the name of his favorite to take the head of the Regulatory Authority for Audiovisual and Digital Communication, the media regulator in France. This is Martin Ajdari, senior civil servant and current deputy general director of the Paris Opera. The executive announced its decision in a press release published this Thursday, November 28.
This appointment is a first step. His name must now be validated by the National Assembly and the Senate. If this is the case, Martin Ajdari will replace the current president of Arcom Roch-Olivier Maistre, who is due to leave his post on February 2.
One of Arcom's missions is in particular to allocate the frequencies assigned to audiovisual, to allow the maintenance of a form of pluralism on the air. A mission that has been in the news for several months and the announcement of the non-renewal of the TNT frequencies allocated to C8 and NRJ12. Acrom must also supervise compliance with the obligations of online platforms established in France.
Martin Adjari appeared on Radio France and France TV
Martin Ajdari has been the deputy general director of the Paris National Opera since January 2020, and notably manages the operational functions of the establishment (administrative and financial, commercial, etc.), as well as strategy.
A graduate of ESCP and Sciences Po Paris, he then studied at ENA before joining the Ministry of the Economy and Finance. In 2004 he was appointed deputy general director of Radio France, a position he held until 2009. He was then deputy general director for resources and general secretary of France Télévisions until 2014. He was then a candidate as president of Radio France in 2014, presidency ultimately entrusted to Mathieu Gallet.
Then, Martin Ajdari was appointed director of the cabinet of the Minister of Culture and Communication for less than a year. Still within this ministry, he then held the position of general director of media and cultural industries, before joining the Paris National Opera.
Whoever takes over the presidency of Arcom at the beginning of February will have a very short first deadline to meet. On February 28, the C8 and NRJ12 channels will in principle no longer broadcast, if any new appeals that the channels may make in December are also unsuccessful.
