Discreet since the start of the farmers' discontent movement, Riviera professionals decided to mobilize this Thursday morning.

Very early on, farmers from across the department converged on the administrative center in .

From 5:30 a.m., in front of the gates, they dumped manure and sheep's woolthus blocking access to the prefecture and the departmental council.

“They prevent us from working with all their standards, so we also decided to prevent them from working”confided Jean-Philippe Frère, olive grower in Rouret, vice-president of the Chamber of Agriculture and president of the FDSEA of the Alpes-Maritimesthe day before the operation, remaining discreet about the nature of the blockage envisaged.

Why this delayed action? “Because our demands here are different from those of our colleagues who are fighting against Mercosur, although we are in solidarity”he explained to Nice-Morning.

“The failure to take into account our professions, our sectors, our needs, all of this has become unbearable”.

For several years, Côte d'Azur farmers are demanding the protection of agricultural production areas and pricing of agricultural water. They denounce the too many regulations, which, they say, prevent them from working properly.

“We are not being heard. We have not even made an appointment with the prefect this time. He knows our demands, they are the same as last year and the year before,” he continued.

Disturbances are expected on the road this Thursday morning in Nice Westnotably at the Cadam exit of the A8.
