Liverpool enjoyed themselves on Wednesday evening as they finally put their Real Madrid hoodoo to bed.
The Reds have a terrible recent record against the Spanish giants having lost six of the last seven meetings between the two sides.
And although it was touch and go for a little while at Anfield, it ended up being a cathartic experience for Liverpool in the end as they recorded a 2-0 win.
Goals from Alexis Mac Allister and Cody Gakpo put Real to the sword, with Kylian Mbappe and Mohamed Salah swapping missed penalties between them.
There was plenty of needle in the game, too. Jude Bellingham spoke on his failed move to Liverpool in 2023 before the game and Reds supporters were surely desperate to show him what he’d missed.
However, despite their high profile losses against Wednesday’s opponents, there is still clearly plenty of respect between the two teams. And Liverpool fans were praised for showing that good feeling in full effect.
Liverpool applaud Thibaut Courtois
Liverpool fans would have every right to be absolutely sick of the sight of Madrid.
Los Blancos have been a nightmare opponent for them over the years, with the Reds seemingly unable to beat them no matter how hard they tried.
One man who perhaps should have been right on the top of supporters hit-list was goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois.
Courtois virtually single-handedly won Madrid the Champions League final, with a string of superb saves somehow denying the Reds.

The £35m man’s Chelsea history is not going to win him any fans at Anfield either.
Nevertheless, TNT Sports commentator Darren Fletcher noticed the Kop applauding their one-time nemesis as he came out for the second-half.
” Nice touch from the Kop, nice applause for Thibaut Courtois,” said Fletcher, after spotting fans welcoming the Belgian out for the second period.
Anfield shows up against Real Madrid
Anfield may have given Courtois a warm reception, but he was just about the only man in a white shirt who got one on Wednesday.
The famous old stadium was at its very, very best against Madrid.
Loud, proud and at times bordering on feral, Liverpool made sure the European champions did not enjoy another visit to Merseyside.
A little depleted and at times looking somewhat sorry for themselves, Madrid simply could not handle what Liverpool threw at them.
Sensational stuff from Anfield as it shows what a difference it can make once again.
