Synopsis de Get Millie Black
Millie-Jean Blacka former Scotland Yard detective, returns to Kingston, Jamaica, to take on missing persons cases. She soon finds herself on a quest to save a brother who doesn't want to be saved, to find a child who can't be found, but also to solve a case that will turn her life upside down.
CNET France's opinion
Millie Jean-Black (Tamara Lawrance) is a brilliant inspector who benefits from very advanced intuition; after rebelling against her mother, she is taken in by a family in London, leaving her brother Orville in the hands of an uncertain fate. 18 years later, she returns to Kingston after having risen through the ranks of Scotland Yard, then slammed the door: the environment is anything but welcoming, and she discovers when her mother dies that her brother is still alive… but… There is a sister, named Hibiscus (Chyna McQueen) who is a prostitute roaming the streets of the city. Their difficult relationship reflects one of the themes of the series: what moves Millie Jean is chasing ghosts from a past that doesn't exist, and shedding light on shadows.

Driven by the interpretation of Tamara Lawrance and a very charismatic cast, including her partner Curtis played by Gershwyn Eustache Jr., Get Millie Black has no interest in retracing the portrait of a postcard Jamaica. On the contrary, the investigation into the disappearance of children leads to the trail of an organized human trafficking network between Great Britain and Jamaica, and the involvement of one of the richest families in the country, the Somervilles. Through Hibiscus, she also depicts a harmful homophobia within society.
The best quality of Get Millie Blackis to never leave any character behind; through a few voice-over sequences, we know the soul of each character, each motivation and each choice that makes them evolve within the investigation, particularly at the start of each episode. It is this quality of writing that separates this thriller from the rest of the cable genre. With any luck, this is the start of a great career for Tamara Lawrance and this miniseries will lead to other investigations in the heart of Kingston. As it stands, Get Millie Black closes the year 2024 in style.
