The Die Hard franchise is one of those sagas born in the 80s which has enjoyed great longevity with the production of five films over twenty-five years between 1988 and 2013. The first opus entitled Crystal Trap is by John McTiernan and directed a great feat by becoming the seventh biggest commercial success in the United States upon its release.
It gave rise to a sequel two years later entitled 58 Minutes to Live directed by Renny Harlin. Five years later, Lieutenant John McClane returned for a third opus, A Day in Hell, this time accompanied by Samuel L. Jackson bringing this new episode into the buddy movie tradition, also with the return of John McTiernan to the realization. This was followed by Return to Hell in 2007 and Beautiful Day to Die in 2013, two sequels which did not enjoy the critical or popular success of the previous films.
