The 25N feminist demonstration brings together thousands of people in Barcelona: “Shame has to change sides”
Thousands of people came together this Monday at dusk in the center of Barcelona to denounce that sexist violence “is not isolated events”, but rather structural violence that is part of an “oppressive” system. The mobilization began on Paseo de Gràcia and Diagonal with the reading of the manifesto and several parliaments.
Representatives of most of the political groups in the Parliament were not missing among the protesters. The rally had as its motto 'Fear and shame have to change sides'.
In the manifesto that has been read, the organization has demanded comprehensive public policies and accessible protocols that recognize the diversity of sexist violence. On the other hand, it has also requested that public administrations and the judicial system incorporate a gender and anti-discrimination perspective “to ensure prevention, investigation and effective reparation in cases of sexist violence.” “They have to guarantee the rights of all people, regardless of their condition, expression, identity or emotional and sexual orientation,” the text noted.
“This 25N we respond collectively to these attacks, knowing that only together, diverse, alive, free and rebellious can we undo this circle of violence that oppresses us,” the manifesto states.
The demonstration began at 7:40 p.m. at the confluence of Paseo de Gràcia with Avenida Diagonal and will continue until reaching the end of the route, at the intersection of Paseo de Gràcia with Gran Vía, and the demonstration has two different areas: one exclusively for women, lesbians, trans and dissident identities, and another mixed one for anyone who wants to join the march.
Dolores Pulido, spokesperson for the Feminist November Collective, explained to the ACN agency that, as a result of the Pelicot case, which these days is being tried in France, it has been considered that the action had to tilt on two axes. The first of them is the need to create a new social paradigm in which aggressors feel that what they do is “unacceptable.” The other axis demands “responsibility” from the administrations.
