Following thefatal accident occurred in the town of Ploubezre, Saturday November 23 around 11:30 p.m., public prosecutorNicolas Heitz, returned this Monday to the unfolding of the facts in a press release.
It appears that the driver of the two-wheeler, aged 15, lost control of his machine while he was being followed by a gendarmerie crew after a refusal to comply.
He hits the church wall
For the record, it was 11:28 p.m. when the alert was given at 18 for an accident that occurred in Ploubezre, rue Jean-Marie-Le-Foll. Eight firefighters aboard three engines immediately went to the scene.
It turned out that the accident only involved the rider of a two-wheeler, a 15-year-old boy who had crashed into the wall of the church compound.
“From the very first elements of the investigation, it appears that the gendarmerie crew had decided to carry out the moped rider controlafter noting that the vehicle's registration plate appeared to be partially obscured,” specifies the public prosecutor.
Refusal to comply
A pursuit then began.
Despite the sound and light warnings being activated, the driver accelerated then braked several times, without stopping at the injunctions thus formulated. It was upon arriving in the village of Ploubezre, near the church, that the driver turned around and, without realizing the bend, continued straight on and ended up hitting a wall.
Despite the immediate assistance provided by the gendarmes and the emergency services, the teenager, residing in Ploubezre, was died on the spot.
“His body was transported to the Rennes Forensic Institute for a complete analysis of the medical causes of death,” continues the public prosecutor.
No collision with the police vehicle
Criminal investigation technicians went to the scene to make precise findings. As it stands, no trace of impact was observed between the gendarmerie vehicle and the motorcycle.
The firefighters initially mentioned “a moped rider”, but according to the public prosecutor, the victim was in fact riding a motorcycle.a 600 cc motorcycle who “belonged to the young man’s family”.
L’General Inspectorate of the National Gendarmerie and the Rennes research section were jointly involved in the investigation on instructions from the public prosecutor's office.
“The investigation should make it possible to determine the exact circumstances in which the facts occurred,” concludes Nicolas Heitz.
