Storm Bert is hitting Lyon and its region this Monday, November 25, 2024. The Rhône department had been placed in orange vigilance strong winds since midnight by Météo France which predicts very strong gusts until at least 6 p.m.
Gusts at more than 110 km/h were recorded, as well as some damage. To avoid any drama, emergency measures were taken, particularly around the Groupama Stadium in Décines-Charpieu.
OL Valley closed urgently
This Monday noon, according to information fromnews Lyonof the ” detached facade elements » fell to the ground within OL Vallée at the foot of Groupama Stadium, where Olympique Lyonnais plays.
“Due to weather conditions, the OL Vallée leisure center is closed until late afternoon“, warns management. In total, 17 establishments open to the public will remain closed until further notice.
A Carrefour evacuated
A few kilometers further, it is the Carrefour Market of Genas on avenue Charles de Gaulle which was urgently evacuated by emergency services. A precautionary measure, again for fear of an accident.
The firefighters, who record 82 interventions since midnightwere still on site shortly after midday, although no injuries were reported.
Tree falls
Tree falls. In Écully, Mions, Décines, or in certain areas of Lyon, trees or parts of trees fell in the face of the force of the wind. Gusts at 117 km/h would have been recorded in eastern Lyon according to Guillaume Séchet of Météo-Villes.
Public transport impacted
According to the TCL website, several tram lines were disrupted by falling branches. Lines T2, T5, T6, T7 and the Rhônexpress were particularly affected with major cuts.
The wind should weaken from 6 p.m., according to Météo-France.
