The second largest economy on the planet, the largest emitter of greenhouse gases, still refuses the slightest constraint on financial aid to the countries of the South.

No developing country can be satisfied with the amount of $300 billion in aid per year that was adopted at the end of COP29 in Baku. They estimate that to help them with the energy transition, as well as to adapt to the already significant effects of global warming, at least 1,000 billion dollars per year would be needed. But, on the other hand, the rich countries return from Azerbaijan with one regret: they did not succeed in convincing that former poor countries which had become flourishing economies, such as China, the Gulf countries or even Singapore, are also obliged to contribute to this important financial effort towards the countries of the South.

Despite all the efforts of Western nations in this direction, China has not moved and has retained its position as leader of the “group of 77 + China”, the large coalition of developing countries within international negotiations. As such, there is no question for Beijing of…
