300 Montpellier supporters were to take their seats in the stand reserved for visitors yesterday at Geoffroy-Guichard. In the end, none of them accessed it. Just before kick-off between two candidates to remain in the elite, a fight broke out near the Cauldron pitting MHSC supporters against some from ASSE. The police intervened very quickly to put an end to this scuffle. Le Progrès tells us that tear gas, but also a water throwing device were used. Consequently, the Loire prefecture ordered the departure of the Pailladins who had traveled to the Loire to avoid any further excesses.
14 injured in this fight
The day after the Greens' vitally important victory, we know more about this fight. Indeed, in today's edition, Le Progès announces that several dozen MHSC supporters had in their possession iron bars and other blunt objects when they got off the bus before entering the stadium with them, to fight with the supporters Saint-Etienne residents who are located near the parking lot. A total of 14 people were injured. Ten Montpellier supporters were taken care of by firefighters and four police officers were also hit during the clashes… A very bad image for French football.
