A demonstration by the Féministes du Narbonnais collective took place this Saturday, November 23.

The International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women takes on particular relevance this year in the context of the trial of Gisèle Pélicot. This Saturday, November 23, a mobilization recalled the massive violence suffered by women both in the private and professional sphere. Moral harassment of a sexist nature, sexist actions, sexual harassment, sexual assault and rape have been denounced with supporting statistics: 9% of rapes or attempts take place in the workplace, 30% of employees have already been harassed there or sexually assaulted. As for those who dare to denounce it, 40% say that the situation has turned against them.

No to violence against women, children and trans people

The mobilization of the feminist collective began at 3 p.m. in front of the courthouse; It was punctuated by inter-union speeches, readings, songs, choreographies, parades and a laying of flowers in tribute to children, trans people and women victims in front of the war memorial at Les Halles. Among the signs held up, one could read: “Woman: double day, half retirement”, or “Not hysterical women, but historical women… Among the songs, that of Mathilde was taken up in chorus: “I sing today to the glory of women in mourning, I sing of their courage, from the gift of life to the coffins… The demonstration ended at 5 p.m. at Place l’Hôtel-de-Ville with the symbolic baptism of the square which had become a time “Gisele.”
