There was more fear than harm! Thursday, November 21, storm Caetano hit the Vendée and caused a lot of material damage. Firefighters, municipal agents but also residents were on the bridge… In Challans, residents even helped with traffic.
A tree lying on a busy boulevard
In the middle of the afternoon, a tree is fell on the boulevard du Bois du Breuil. He blocked one of the two lanes. City technical agents were intervening a few dozen meters away when he fell.
They got arrived on site to remove the branches. However, the operation was relatively dangerous because it is a very busy route. Fortunately, a couple stopped to lend a hand to the three City agents present and ensure traffic.
A great first
The two women placed on one side and the other of the operation. One stopped the cars in one direction while the other signaled those in front to move forward.
For them, the situation was unprecedented. “I’ve never done that in my entire life!” I arrived in Vendée in February. I used to live in the South and we must admit that we are not used to this kind of situation,” one of them joked to the Courier Vendéen.
Despite her lack of experience in the field, she accepted this mission without hesitation. “I've had a lot of help in my life so whenever I can I return the favor,” she emphasized.
Other damage
Once their mission was finished, the couple left by car to repair the damage. in their meadows where five trees have fallen down. “We are especially afraid for our ponies,” says one of them.
In Challans, around twenty operations were recorded during the day. There were no injuries despite material damage. “We anticipated well. It is true that with this weather the best thing to do is to stay at home,” underlined Rémi Pascreau, the mayor of the town.
