Many supporters of Olympique de Marseille are dreaming of Paul Pogba and are starting to pressure Mehdi Benatia, who is close to the French player.
The king of big signings at OM, Pablo Longoria, loves to take risks with star players in their thirties, and this has sometimes paid off, as seen with Alexis Sanchez and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. Successfully bringing in Adrien Rabiot and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg recently was also quite a feat that astonished many, especially considering that OM is not even competing in European competitions. This gives legitimacy to the dream of bringing Paul Pogba on board, in the eyes of numerous OM fans. The fact that the midfielder, who is still suspended for doping until March, is now a free agent allows clubs to approach him. According to RMC, Mehdi Benatia is still in contact with La Pioche, who will officially be able to resume training with a potential future club in January, just two months before his FIFA clearance.
OM is among the clubs mentioned, but the 2018 World Cup champion may also wish to completely cut ties with European football and move to the Middle East or, more likely, the Major League Soccer, as he enjoys the American lifestyle. His future is currently up for discussion, but Marseille supporters certainly hope that Mehdi Benatia can leverage his good relationship with Pogba to make a move. On social media, the future sports director of OM is being implored to bring in another star to Provence. “What a debut it would be for Benatia as DS to sign Pogba,” one fan wrote. “Can you imagine a midfield of Rabiot, Hojbjerg, and Pogba?” Another exclaimed, “I dream of Pogba, damn… that would be amazing,” while others pleaded, “Mehdi, please get Pogba to OM.” This comes at a time when the French player is in very uncertain physical condition, having not played for over a year.
