The snowstorm currently raging in the Ile-de-France region is causing disruption in Yvelines and Essonne, leading to the suspension of school transport this Friday, November 22, 2024. This Thursday, schools remain open, but parents are invited to collect their children from 3pm.
This Thursday, November 21the Yvelines and the whole of theIle-de-France region were placed under a vigilance orange for snow and freezing rain, a rare situation at this time of year. This is causing major traffic problems throughout the Paris region, particularly in Yvelines and Essonne.
Against this backdrop, the Yvelines prefecture has announced that school transport will be suspended this Thursday and Friday, November 22as a precautionary measure due to the risk of frost and ice.
This measure also applies to Essonnewhere weather forecasts indicate a drop in night-time temperatures and further snowfall expected on Friday morning.
Schools remain open today. However, preventive measures have been put in place to make it easier for pupils to return home:
- Early departure for authorized students: Students usually authorized to go out on their own may leave the school from 3pm.
- Parental pick-up: Parents of students who are not authorized to go out on their own are invited to collect them from 3pm.
- Pupils who have not been collected: For pupils who are unable to go out on their own or be collected by their parents in the afternoon, academic services will supervise them until they are collected by parents or school transport.
At the same time, road services are working hard to limit the impact of this winter episode. In Yvelines, the road network remains generally operational, thanks to preventive salting operations underway throughout the département. If necessary, snow removal teams will intervene rapidly to keep roads passable.
In Essonne, the authorities are urging caution, particularly in view of the risk of severe frost expected overnight. This vigilance is part of an overall effort to minimize disruption and ensure the safety of everyone, from schoolchildren to motorists.
With snowfall expected to continue until 7pm this Thursdayresidents of both départements are advised to limit their travel as much as possible. This new winter episode reminds us of the importance of adaptation and caution in the face of climatic hazards, which disrupt daily activities but also strengthen our collective resilience.
