Cold winds and showers move in with snow for some

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) – The rest of this week comes with colder winds and even a change to some wintry mix to snowfall. We looking ahead to improvements this weekend, then rain to impact traveling ahead of Thanksgiving and the holiday.

WHAT TO EXPECT

It’s a clear and colder morning! We’re dropping on average to 35 degrees, which is actually right at the average low for this time of the year. But, it does feel colder at times. We have a calm wind to around 10 mph and that can occasionally make it feel like it’s freezing.

Clouds drop in from the north and winds increase today, with spotty drizzle to sleet and some snow mixing in. This leaves us with a high around 49 degrees in Knoxville, and a small dip to around 46 degrees in the afternoon, but it feels like it’s in the 30s. (To see a detailed look at wind chills where you live, check out the WVLT First Alert Weather app.) We have a westerly wind 15 to 25 mph today, and occasional gusts around 35 mph.

Thursday through Friday morning(WVLT)

The Winter Weather Advisory starts at 4 p.m. and continues until 10 a.m. Friday for the mountains of far Southeastern Kentucky and Smoky and Cherokee Mountains. This is where several inches of snow can add up.

It’s a cloudy and chilly night, with lows in the mid to upper 30s, and continuing to feel colder. We’ll go up to a 40% coverage of our area in flurries in the Valley to light to moderate snow showers in the higher elevations, and then that accumulating mountain snow.

LOOKING AHEAD

Friday is mostly cloudy, with spotty cold showers lingering. It’s back to a drizzle to sleet and snow mix. We’ll warm to around 47 degrees, and a northwesterly wind of 10 to 20 mph can make it feel colder.

The weekend bounces back, with some seasonably cold mornings then low 50s Saturday afternoon, as the sunshine returns. That’s good timing for a 1 p.m. kickoff in your I’m All Vol Forecast!

Sunday is mostly sunny and warms to around 60 degrees.
