The accident occurred on the night of Wednesday 20 to Thursday 21 November 2024 on the A1 motorway in the Paris-Lille direction. A collision involving two heavy goods vehicles around 3:15 a.m. in Phalempin, 4 kilometers after interchange 17, at marker point 197+200.
The right lane and the middle lane were neutralized, to allow Pas-de-Calais firefighters dispatched to the scene to extricate a victim trapped in his vehicle.
This caused several kilometers of traffic jams (17 at 8 a.m.), still increasing at 9 a.m. Repercussions also formed on the A21 at the Dourges junction, in both directions of traffic.
The Northern prefecture invites motorists to “absolutely avoid the area” of Phalempin, very busy during rush hours.
18 firefighters from Oignies, Hénin-Beaumont, Harnes and Bully-les-Mines intervened to rescue two people, slightly injured: a 25-year-old man, transported to CH Seclin and another 45, evacuated to the Lille CHR.
The accident also required the intervention of SMUR, law enforcement and the DIR.
