A week after announcing his cancer, Jean-Noël Carpentier, mayor of Montigny-lès-Cormeilles, died

The councilor died this Wednesday, November 20, from lung cancer, diagnosed recently. He was due to begin treatment this week. He announced his illness last week on social networks.

“Bye.” It is with these words that Jean-Noël Carpentier begins his last message to the inhabitants of Montigny-lès-Cormeilles on Facebook, this Wednesday, November 20. The mayor of this town in Val-d'Oise died a few hours later, at the age of 54.

“I left faster than what we hoped with the doctors. But I left peacefully having been able to say goodbye to my family, my daughters, my wife. We leave each other in love, that's my great joy”, writes the councilor, figure of the Progressive Movement (MDP), in a moving text.

Last week, Jean-Noël Carpentier announced to his constituents that he was suffering from lung cancer, diagnosed “a short time ago”. Like the doctors, he said he was “optimistic” about the evolution of this disease. The mayor of Montigny-lès-Cormeilles was to begin treatment this week which would keep him away from municipal events for a while.

“I also leave with a proud heart”

Eventually, the illness took over within a handful of days. Robert Hue's successor as town hall of Montigny-lès-Cormeilles nevertheless ensures that he leaves “with peace of mind knowing that so many friends love me, even if my hasty departure did not allow me to greet them and greet them. thank”.

“I also leave with a proud heart to have had for many years the trust of so many inhabitants of our good city. Oh of course, debates, discussions and sometimes disagreements were expressed, but always with respect “, remembers the former deputy for the 3rd constituency of Val-d'Oise.

And added: “Today, I first of all remember the agreements and the attachment that we had with many of you to say that Montigny is such a pleasant city when you know it and especially when you know its inhabitants and their diversity.”

“The immense sadness” of the municipal council

Jean-Noël Carpentier finally sends a public thank you to the elected officials with whom he collaborated. These “will know how to continue this challenge of respect and living together. This is always what I have carried deep within me during all these years for our city. This is also what our former mayor had carried Robert Hue.

The councilor was always overflowing with ambitions. Just last week, he confirmed to his residents his desire, despite illness, to remain mayor of a city over which he had been watching for 15 years. “This provisional test does not change anything in my decision,” he assured. A statement that takes on a tragic resonance today.

On behalf of the municipal council, Jacqueline Huchin, his first deputy, expressed her “immense sadness” and addresses all her thoughts to the family, the wife and the three daughters of Jean-Noël Carpentier.
