Senator Ps Rachid Temal announced on his Facebook page the death of Jean-Noël Carpentier, the mayor (Progressive Movement) who had just announced in a video that doctors had recently discovered lung cancer in him . An announcement made then for the sake of “transparency”.
Announcing his cancer
Aged 54, Jean-Noël Carpentier was elected mayor of Montigny-lès-Cormeilles on March 16, 2009, succeeding Robert Hue.
The announcement of the sudden death of Jean-Noël Carpentier was published this Wednesday on the City's website.
The press release repeats the last statement made by Jean-Noël Carpentier on social networks.
” Bye. I left faster than expected with the doctors. But I left peacefully, having been able to say goodbye to my family, my daughters, my wife. We leave each other loving each other, that’s my great joy.”
“I also leave with peace of mind knowing that so many friends love me, even if my hasty departure did not allow me to greet them and thank them. »
“I also leave with a proud heart to have had the trust of so many residents of our good city for many years. Oh sure, debates, discussions and sometimes disagreements were expressed, but always with respect. Today, I first remember the agreements and the attachment that we had with many of you to say that Montigny is such a pleasant city when you know it and especially when you know its inhabitants and their diversity. »
“The elected officials with whom I loved working, and for whom I have great affection, will be able to continue this challenge of respect and living together. This is always what I have carried deep within me all these years for our city. This is also what our former mayor Robert Hue wore. »
This terrible and sudden announcement sparked many reactions. Starting with that of Rachid Temal.
“I am stunned and devastated. I understand his silence better following my last message of friendship and support in the face of this ordeal. I hoped to find him quickly to have lunch together again to reinvent the left, our left. »
The elected official remembers the last joint campaign in the senatorial elections in September 2023.
“Goodbye Jean-Noël”
“Jean-Noël was a man of convictions. A curious man and always open to discussion. He loved his family. He loved his city. He loved the inhabitants of Montigny-les-Cormeilles. He loved his elected officials on his municipal council. I am thinking at this moment of his wife, his daughters and his family. I am also thinking of the elected representatives of the Municipal Council who will have to continue their commitment and live up to their vision for the city and its residents. Goodbye Jean-Noël. »
“A great mayor”
On the town's Facebook page, a large number of people paid tribute to the man who was “a great mayor who did a lot of good to Montigny-Lès-Cormeilles. His sudden disappearance is a shock. Courage to all those close to him,” said Benjamin.
Many elected officials share their condolences to the family and loved ones.
Jean-Noël Carpentier, former candidate for the legislative elections in 2007 for the Communist Party, was elected municipal councilor of Montigny-lès-Cormeilles on March 16, 2008.
Seven months later, he became first deputy, before succeeding Robert Hue, who resigned, on March 16, 2009.
After participating in the creation of the Progressive Unitary Movement (which became the Progressive Movement), he was elected deputy in 2012, benefiting in particular from the nomination of the Socialist Party.
In 2017, he did not run again in the legislative elections, wishing to retain his mandate as mayor (the law then prohibited the accumulation of mandates). He leaves the chair to Cécile Rilhac.
Jean-Noël Carpentier will be re-elected in 2020 with 54.5% of the votes.
