Lovers of I like lire mourn the loss of Bernadette Afterwardsdesigner and co-creator of the famous comic strip Tom-Tom and Nanaborn in 1977. Bayard Editions announced her death on Wednesday, at the age of 83.

Flagship artist of the magazine, Bernadette Després illustrated no less than 371 adventures of the turbulent Tom-Tom and Nanamainly written by Jacqueline Cohen, then by Evelyne Reberg. A true editorial success, the series has 34 albums which have sold more than 16 millions copiesa record in the world of children's comics.

For more than three decades, Bernadette Després brought the restaurant to life with humor and precision. HAS the Good Forkits lively corners and its colorful characters: the mischievous children Tom-Tom and Nana, their parents Yvonne and Adrien, their sister Marie-Lou, and their eccentric aunt Roberte.

Originally titled The Adventures of Tom-Tom at the Good Forkthe series was inspired by his own family. Nana borrowed the features of her daughter, while Tom-Tom displayed the angular face of his son Étienne. The names of the heroes come from children's nicknames dear to Jacqueline Cohen.

The publication of the adventures stopped in 2009, for lack of scenarios, Jacqueline Cohen and Evelyne Reberg having refused to continue after the end of their collaboration. Bernadette Afterwardswho preferred drawing rather than writing, would have liked to continue with certain characters, notably Aunt Roberte, whom she particularly liked…
