The pre-Christmas season is about to begin and, fittingly, the weather in Baden-Württemberg is giving us wintry conditions. Meteorologist Georg Haas says whether snow and cold will stay until the first Advent.
Stuttgart – Shortly before the start of the meteorological winter on December 1st, the weather in Baden-Württemberg has appropriately changed to cold. The reason for this was the storm “Quiteria”, which put an end to the high pressure phase in the country and brought with it a “chaotic weather cocktail” of frosty temperatures as well as sleet, hail, snow and rain.
The fact that the first flakes fell from the sky gave some people the first feelings of winter. After all, the first Advent of this year coincides with the meteorological start of winter. Maybe snow and cold will stay with us until then?
Meteorologist reveals whether there will be winter landscapes in Baden-Württemberg for the first Advent
In recent years, white winter landscapes for the contemplative pre-Christmas period have, if at all, been found in the higher altitudes of Baden-Württemberg. Now that snowy forecasts have been issued by the weather models for the coming days, hope is growing that things could finally work out again in 2024. But meteorologist Georg Haas from wetter.com has bad news for all winter fans.
The temperature deviation map of the European ECMWF model shows values that are significantly too cold for the southwest and the rest of Germany until November 24th. “That will change in the following week,” reports the weather expert. In the calculations for November 25th to December 1st, a southern foehn can be seen, which will supply us with warmer air masses again. Winter conditions for the first Advent will therefore probably not prevail across the country.
“No big spectacle to be expected” in the second week of Advent either
Due to the foehn air, it can sometimes be stormy in the south of the country. A return of cold and snow is not expected for the time being. “In the following period, from December 2nd to 8th, the weather will calm down and under the influence of high pressure, such a big spectacle will probably no longer be expected,” explains Georg Haas. Rather, a lot of fog and high fog and “classic December gray” have to be expected again.
