On Monday evening, the ARD talk “Hard but Fair” discussed the corona pandemic. In addition to Elena Lierck, the mother of a young Long Covid patient, Health Minister Karl Lauterbach was also invited as a guest. The politician wanted to explain to the woman how care provision is organized in Germany: “As a rule, if there is a need for care, then there are levels of care that are recognized. That doesn’t give the impression that there are people lying in the room and…” Lierck immediately countered: “So yes, of course there is. There are levels of care. But access to that takes one or two years.” Lauterbach replied that that needs to be changed – he is working feverishly on that.
Lauterbach loses his way – mother rumbles: “But we all already know that”
The Minister of Health assured that he was working on the issue and was trying to “accelerate it”. His ministry also co-organized a congress on the topic and set up a homepage for it. Then the minister gets lost and Lierck lets him run in again.
“You can read about it, what is there, where are the centers, what are the new scientific findings?” Lierck rumbles: “But we all already know that. But we know this through the support of the institutions and self-help associations. So Fatigatio, German Society for ME/CFS, that’s why this knowledge is there. Not because the BMG essentially generates the knowledge. And then I ask myself, if all of this is integrated, why are all the self-help associations uninvited this time, at the third Long Covid Congress?” They were not uninvited, says Lauterbach. “Purely a specialist audience,” Lierck sticks to her statement. Lauterbach finally makes it clear that Lierck and her association NichtGenesenKids eV were not only invited to all previous events, but were also there.
You can see the entire program from November 18th in the ARD media library.
