LANCASTER, Ohio (WSYX) — With the chance for a wintry mix this week, it is a reminder that winter is almost here. Many cities and counties are preparing for the winter season.
Superintendent Tim Deitz of the Lancaster Department of Transportation says his crews and trucks are ready!
“We’ve got single axle dump trucks, and we got some small one-time dump trucks. The single axile and tandems will actually have the slide-in units, the v boxes as they’re called. So they’re permanently in here for the winter.”
Superintendent Tim Deitz says that not only are crews ready, but they are fully stocked with salt. Their main facility holds 2,400 tons, and their off-site storage has 1,000 tons. There is some extra salt from last season, too.
The cities and counties outside of Columbus are also ready for winter operations.
The city of Delaware is ready with about 3,000 tons of salt between leftovers and what was purchased.
The city of Marysville is fully staffed with about 4,500 tons of salt.
Licking County Highway Department is ready and even had to find extra space for the surplus salt from last winter.
Madison County is ready with extra staff and purchased less salt due to leftovers from last winter.
No matter the county or city, crews are prepared for whatever winter brings to the Buckeye State.
