The courts accused him of having recruited the son of a friend, who was in charge of the services of the Poissy town hall. But also to have provided official accommodation “for which the fee was undervalued” to this same official. For these facts, described as “illegal taking of interest”, Macronist MP Karl Olive was sentenced Monday to eight months in prison. These facts occurred when the elected official was mayor of Poissy (Yvelines), under the Les Républicains label.
The Versailles judicial court also sentenced two other defendants: the current director of youth and sports in Poissy and his father, former deputy director of town hall services. During the hearing, the prosecutor denounced “a form of nepotism by Karl Olive, condemned by the rules of the territorial civil service”, motivated by the “ties of friendship” maintained with his co-defendants.
The former Canal+ journalist had notably recruited one of the defendants without worrying about the rules for public service appointments. The father of this agent had benefited from company accommodation “for which the fee was undervalued”. “I have always considered that regarding what was proposed by the financial department, the HR department or the legal department, there were no questions” to ask, argued Karl Olive who assures that he simply “trusted” his team. The latter will appeal the decision. No sentence of ineligibility was imposed.
