On Monday, a sentencing judge considered that certain conditions of Rédoine Faïd, including her placement in solitary confinement, are “contrary to the dignity of the person”.
A sentence enforcement judge on Monday ordered the lifting of the solitary confinement in prison of repeat robber Rédoine Faïd, who is serving three sentences including one of 14 years for his escape from Réau prison (Seine-et-Marne). ) in 2018, AFP learned from a source close to the matter. According to this source, this judge considers that certain conditions of detention of Rédoine Faïd, including her placement in solitary confinement, are “contrary to the dignity of the human person” and gives the prison administration 30 days to put an end to it. However, the Béthune public prosecutor's office told AFP that it had appealed this decision. “This proves that what we have been saying for months is true and that Rédoine Faïd is undergoing treatment contrary to human dignity, even though her prison journey is heavy”commented to AFP one of his lawyers, Me Benoît David.
The sentence enforcement judge considers that the placement in solitary confinement of the inmate “at least for eleven years”but also the fact that his visiting rooms have been equipped with a hygiaphone since October 2018 and that he has not been able to benefit from a family living unit since 2018 are “contrary to the dignity of the human person”. The robber was sentenced in October 2023 to 14 years of criminal imprisonment by the Paris Assize Court, for his spectacular escape by helicopter from Réau prison in July 2018. With this new conviction, against which he did not appeals, the end of the sentence of Rédoine Faïd, who was already serving convictions for a robbery in 2011 and a previous escape in 2013, should be postponed to 2060.
