Charles Dumont was in his time one of the most famous French composers, notably for having given Édith Piaf one of her most legendary songs. He died at the age of 95.
“Nothing, no, I don’t regret anything…”Charles Dumont is the author of this unforgettable song. Composed for Édith Piaf in 1956 and with the words of Michel Vaucaire, the famous French singer made her return to the Olympia and toured the world thanks to it. “This song is my life” Édith Piaf would have said when she heard it for the first time. Until the disappearance of La Môme in 1963, Charles Dumont composed around thirty songs for her, tailor-made for the singer.
Born in 1929, Charles Dumont also composed for Juliette Gréco, Dalida, Cora Vaucaire, Luis Mariano… A musician at heart, he played the piano almost every day, considering the instrument to be his best ally. In his house in Normandy, Charles Dumont is said to have composed at least 500 songs. He said that a song was a bit like a love story: until you have met the other person, you are not happy.
