The Panamanian midfielder of the Mexican Mazatlán, Édgar Bárcenas, mentioned how happy he is for the victory that his team won last Thursday against Costa Rica.

They recognize that the first leg and the second leg are different, and that now they will have to concentrate more to win at home, with their people, while Costa Rica will be forced to take risks.

«Costa Rica has to take risks, there is no other option, they are below the scoreboard and we will try to take advantage of the spaces that they can leave in their search for a result. We do not expect Costa Rica to get behind, I feel that they are going to do things that they have not done,” Bárcenas explained.

The player commented that it cost them the game in Costa Rica, however, they knew how to overcome it and that is a merit of the group and now in Panama they will try something else, like having more scoring chances. “Only that would improve, the rest we were very good, in defense the zero is there.”

«There they came out to hit us and provoke us. Since I’ve been watching the Costa Ricans play against Panama, I’ve never seen Costa Rica go and hit the Panamanian player and in this match I got the feeling that they wanted us to fall for their provocations,” he said.

The midfielder highlighted that at halftime Professor Christiansen spoke with them about not falling for the Ticos’ provocations and that they tried to find areas where they could play better due to the conditions of the field.

Bárcenas stated that his team was calm because he knew that with the 0-1 result, they have a step forward in the playoffs.

«We were also calm because of the confidence that the defensive line gave us, almost all of the duels were won well, and Costa Rica in the end was dividing the ball, for a defensive line of 5 it is easier to defend that, that is why the tranquility was seen », he commented.
