GOVERNMENT CAMP Ore. (KPTV) – Snow began to fall in the lower Cascades Sunday evening, making travel both in and out of the mountain passes treacherous.

“My buddy actually crashed into a side guardrail up at Dead Man’s Corner we call it, up on Timberline Road,” Gomez said. “Earlier we had a lot of rain right, and then it got cold so the road snapped over, got really slick really quick, so I just throw my truck into a low gear, go really slow, and try not to hit the brakes too much.”

Gomez’s words of advice to those new to the mountain:
“If you don’t have snow tires I would definitely be chaining up, and chain up at the right place. Don’t do it at the runaway truck ramp,” he said.
Garrett Jetton recently moved to the area from Texas and was one of many who took advantage of Timberline’s opening weekend.
“Vacation turned into moving up here, so this is my first time ever seeing weather like this, it’s pretty crazy,” he said.
However, he said snowboarding conditions were not ideal on Sunday.
“Started getting really, really, really bad after noon, around 2:30 p.m. It was pretty miserable, to be honest,” Jetton said.
