Julius Randle put in his biggest performance for the season to lead the Minnesota Timberwolves to a win over the Phoenix Suns.
The Minnesota Timberwolves trade with the New York Knicks saw Karl-Anthony Towns head to the Big Apple and Julius Randle and Donte DiVincenzo come the other way.
Julius Randle went a long way to proving himself a valuable addition to the Minnesota Timberwolves with his biggest performance yet for his new team in a comeback win at home to the Phoenix Suns.
The Suns had led by 16 in the first half and even by 7 in the fourth quarter before the Timberwolves hauled them back in.
After Anthony Edwards tied the game, Devin Booker committed a shot-clock violation that gave the Timberwolves three seconds to try and win the game.
Minnesota called the play to give Randle the chance to shoot, and he scored a dramatic buzzer-beater with the clock expiring to clinch a 120-117 win and avoid overtime.
Julius Randle winning shot had hint of a foul
Julius Randle’s winner was a huge moment, taking the Timberwolves to 8-6 for the season, with Phoenix dropping to 9-5.
But Randle’s dramatic three-pointer had a hint of a foul, creating a real talking point, with the Suns’ Josh Okogie sent tumbling to the floor before he got his shot off.
Fans on X had a lot to say. One wrote: “Julius Randle got away with a clear push off.”
Another added: “Julius Randle just was cold blooded for that game winner. But I’m not gonna lie….did he not push off? I’m always confused on that one cause they don’t always call it.”
A third agreed, writing: “Julius Randle at the buzzer for the win, bang. Randle also with a push off that was not called. Wolves got bailed out by the refs.”
Another said: “Julius Randle clear push off no call foul. Suns got robbed.”
And a fifth fan asked: “how was that not an offensive foul? Julius Randle stiff armed that mf.”
Another pleaded: “That surely has to be an offensive foul on Julius Randle. Come on what we doing here?”
Julius Randle praised
This was Julius Randle’s biggest game on the Minnesota Timberwolves, scoring 35 points, more than Anthony Edwards‘ 24.
Speaking to the broadcast, he commented: “It felt good, it’s a shot I felt comfortable shooting, coach put me in a position where I felt comfortable making a play.”
He praised the Suns’ Devin Booker who scored 44, stepping up with Kevin Durant out injured, adding: “Its tough, Book had it going, they are a tough team.”
Yet it was Randle who was all anybody wanted to talk about. One fan wrote: “Julius Randle, I was unfamiliar with your game.”
Another demanded: “PUT SOME MF RESPECT ON JULIUS RANDLE”.
A third echoed: “Julius Randle so over hated. Ankle breaker game winning 3 love to see it.”
“JULIUS RANDLE called game !!!!!”, posted another, with a fifth fan adding: “JULIUS RANDLE YOU ARE OFFICIALLY A MEMBER OF THE MINNESOTA TIMBERWOLVES.”
After surviving De’Aaron Fox’s 60 points, and seeing off Booker’s 44, the Timberwolves are showing they are a real team, and Randle is settling in and making himself at home.
