What we know about upcoming strikes and social movements until December 31

An autumn under high social tension. Several movements are expected this November and December in transport, the civil service, nurseries and medical laboratories.

A social autumn. After the Olympic Games break and the beginnings of the Barnier government, the trade union organizations intend to make themselves heard again, particularly in the streets. In a few days, several social movements were announced in turn by the national union of airline pilots, farmers, the SNCF and in national education.

Farmers: from November 18

After the blockades and heavy-handed operations at the start of the year, farmers are resuming their mobilization. They demand the continued implementation of the measures promised by the Attal government and protest against the free trade treaty with Mercosur.

If the first actions have already taken place in recent days locally, in Tarascon for example, farmers are planning, from Monday, demonstrations in all departments in front of the prefectures and on roundabouts. Disruptions on the roads are expected, but the FNSEA has announced that it does not plan to block the highways. The coalition composed of the FNSEA and the JA warns that this mobilization could extend until mid-December.

Early childhood: November 19

The CGT has launched a call for a strike and demonstration with the collective “No babies in the deposit box” in the early childhood sector. The issues of salaries, employment and public services and also quality of reception will be at the center of the demands of this day of mobilization.

SNCF: November 21 then unlimited strike from December 11

November 21 will be marked by a strike at the SNCF. An “ultimatum” day as a preamble to the call for an unlimited strike from December 11announced by the railway group's unions, who are calling for a moratorium against the dismantling of Fret SNCF and protesting against the opening of regional lines to competition.

The strike will last from Wednesday November 20 at 7 p.m. to Friday November 22 at 8 a.m. In a press release entitled “the time has come for conflict at the SNCF”, the CGT-Cheminots, the Unsa-Ferroviaire, Sud-Rail and the CFDT-Cheminots warned that this day of strike is “an ultimatum” before “a longer and stronger strike movement in December” if the government and the SNCF do not respond to their demands.

The CGT-Cheminots, Unsa-Ferroviaire, Sud-Rail and the CFDT-Cheminots explain that given the lack of “inflection” from the group's management, the strike will be unlimited and renewable for periods of 24 hours starting on Wednesday December 11, 7 p.m.

Public services: December 5

Seven of the eight public service union organizations are calling for a national day of “action” and “strike” on December 5 after announcements of savings in the administration. A majority of organizations (CGT, CFDT, UNSA, FSU, Solidaires, CFE-CGC and FA-FP) therefore called on public sector agents for a day of action of “rallies, demonstrations and strikes on the entire territory.

If they note a retreat from the minister on a controversial project to abolish categories A, B, and C of civil servants carried by his predecessor, “Guillaume Kasbarian did not respond to most of the other proposals and demands”, they write in a joint press release. The UFSE-CGT, for its part, has filed strike notices until December 31.

The call for mobilization on December 5 comes in a context of growing tension with their supervisory minister. In addition to recriminations against the planned reforms, Guillaume Kasbarian attracted the wrath of left-wing political representatives, unions and public employee groups after publicly sending a message of congratulations to Elon Musk, appointed by Donald Trump to the presidency. head of a ministry of “Government Effectiveness” to “dismantle government bureaucracy”.

The civil service is made up of three sides (State, territorial and hospital) which employ more than five million agents, including 1.9 million territorial civil servants and 1.2 million hospital agents.

Biology laboratories: December 23 to 31

No medical analyzes for the end of the year. Four biologists' unions (SDBio, Medical Biologists, SLBC and SNMB) have called a strike from December 23 to 31.

This inter-union denounces “the drastic reduction in the prices of medical biology procedures”, “imposed” at the beginning of September by the National Health Insurance Fund (Cnav), “without consultation”, on the “reason that the annual growth in the number of biology exams is higher than the estimates which served as a basis for defining the envelope allocated to biology”.

They call on the Cnav to reopen negotiations on their prices, revised downwards “without consultation”.
