Spanish La Liga president Javier Tebas couldn't be happier: he today sees one of its main enemies fall. Indeed, the Spanish authorities have closed the illegal streaming application Cristal Azul, a veritable institution of clandestine broadcasts in Spain.

78,000 football fans deprived of access

The app allowed nearly 78,000 aficionados to follow La Liga and second division matches for free, while inflicting damage estimated at 42 million euros on the Spanish football economy. The operation, carried out following a joint complaint from La Liga and Movistar, « resulted in lindictment of a 37-year-old man for market and consumer offenses following a fraud estimated at 42,547,104 euros, at blocking and deleting all channels of the instant messaging application where the matches were broadcast as well as the deletion of programming code used illicitly »specified the civil guard.
