This Wednesday, November 13, the US Congress held a new hearing at the Rayburn House Office Building in Washington, entitled “Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena: Revealing the Truth”. This meeting reflects an evolution in the official approach to UFOs, now officially called unidentified anomalous phenomena (UAP). The hearing, marked by testimonies from former military personnel, government officials and well-informed whistleblowers, insisted on the need to lift the veil on these mysterious phenomena and adopt a more transparent policy. One of them confirms: “we are not alone in the cosmos.

A subject still taboo but with colossal stakes

For several years, UAPs or UFOs have returned to the center of concerns of American elected officials. In May 2022, the US Congress held its first public hearing on the subject in decades, following recent images captured by pilots, some of which were published in 2017 by the New-York Times.

Two years ago, the Pentagon also established the All-Domain Anomaly Resolution Office (AARO), an entity dedicated to collecting data on UAPs. However, elected officials like Representative Mace (South Carolina) have expressed doubts about the transparency of this agency. A report from the latter published a few months ago had frustrated many stakeholders and witnesses, arguing that many of the reported sightings were probably only surveillance drones, most of them Chinese. Others would just be airborne junk, such as weather balloons.

In this context, the American Congress decided to conduct a second hearing.

Testimonies from whistleblowers with prestigious profiles

One of the most striking aspects of this hearing was the credibility of the witnesses called to share their experiences and knowledge on unidentified anomalous phenomena (UAP).

Among them, Luis Elizondoa former counterintelligence agent at the Pentagon, claimed that the US government not only collected information on non-human technologies, but also conducted secret programs aimed at reverse engineering UFOs recovered. Elizondo, a leading figure in the public debate on UFOs, revealed that these technologies, if indeed of extraterrestrial origin, would far surpass those of any known nation, even suggesting that some of these UFOs appear capable of maneuvering in such a way as to challenge our current physical laws.

Still according to Elizondo, the excessive secrecy maintained around these questions would also have “ led to serious misdeeds against loyal officials, military personnel, and the public — all to hide the fact that we are not alone in the cosmos. »

However, Elizondo avoided providing sensitive details due to national security constraints, emphasizing that the secrecy surrounding these projects harms public safety and democratic transparency.

Possible non-human intelligence

This former counterintelligence agent was not alone in this approach. Rear Admiral Tim Gallaudetretired, former director of the United States Weather and Ocean Service (NOAA), also testified in favor of greater transparency. According to him, the NAPs represent a crucial awareness for humanity: « We are probably not the only advanced intelligence in the universe. »

Gallaudet also highlighted the possibility that some of these PANs are controlled by a non-human intelligence (INH), a concept that goes beyond simple experimental devices. In his testimony, he insisted on the need to demystify the phenomenon and consider it as a major scientific and security issue. For him, this recognition of a “superior non-human intelligence” should encourage international collaboration, because the phenomena observed could represent risks or opportunities for all of humanity.

The demand for a scientific and interdisciplinary approach

Another witness, Michael Goldformer associate administrator of NASA, advocated for the American space agency to put its scientific resources at the service of UAP research. Gold explained that the agency has huge archives of space data that could hold clues to these phenomena. According to him, it would be crucial to use artificial intelligence and machine learning algorithms to analyze this massive data.

Gold also emphasized the importance of fight stigma that surrounds research on UAPs: “ Science is our best tool for unraveling this mystery, but the investigation cannot be carried out if stigma prevents experts from seriously delving into the subject. » The former NASA executive suggested that the agency develop specialized instruments and a research team dedicated to UFOs, in order to study the phenomena in a rigorous and public manner.

The question of national security and hidden interests

The hearing also highlighted the national security implications raised by UFOs, particularly when they appear near sensitive military installations in the United States. Several elected officials highlighted the potential risks if unknown entities controlled technologies capable of evading military surveillance and maneuvering in restricted airspace.

Against this backdrop, Rep. Jared Moskowitz (D-FL) asked Luis Elizondo about a non-disclosure agreement which he allegedly signed, preventing him from revealing to the public precise details about American military programs aimed at recovering and analyzing UFOs.

Elizondo, while remaining discreet about the content of this agreement, suggested that secret technologies and programs linked to UAPs are protected by such a high level of confidentiality that they even escape the supervision of elected officials and oversight agencies. Comparing the lack of transparency around these UFOs to a possible intelligence failure on the scale of the September 11 attacks, some representatives expressed concern that these phenomena, if exploited by foreign powers, could pose a threat far greater than anything the country has experienced in terms of security vulnerability.

The investigative journalist Michael Shellenberger also contributed to this aspect of the hearing by evoking a supposed military program called “Immaculate Constellation”. According to Shellenberger, this secret program would be dedicated to collecting and storing military reports and sensor data on UAPs, without this information being shared with civilian authorities or even certain branches of government. Although the Pentagon has publicly denied the existence of this program, Shellenberger recalled several precedents where military information related to UAPs was first denied by the government before later being confirmed.

Towards a new era of transparency?

The November 13 hearing therefore represents an additional stage in the public debate around the UAPs, marked by increasingly precise revelations and testimonies from credible figures. The elected officials insisted on the right of the American people to be informed of scientific and technological discoveries on these unexplained phenomena. Additionally, emphasis was placed on the importance of an interdisciplinary approach, involving NASA, security experts and Congress, to establish a national UFO strategy, or NAP.

By holding the government accountable and encouraging it to adopt a more rigorous scientific approach, Congress hopes to demystify a subject that is still widely stigmatized. Whether these phenomena are of human origin or not, they raise crucial questions about our understanding of the universe, our security and the ethical management of information. While secrets continue to hover around UAPs, the hearing clearly highlighted the need for greater transparency to perhaps one day unravel the mysteries of these unidentified anomalous phenomena.
