This Thursday, November 14, at 7 p.m., a torchlight march was organized from Place des Terreaux, at the call of several organizations including Solidaires Rhône, Urgence Palestine, the Young Guard and the Unitary Campaign for the Liberation of Georges Ibrahim Abdallah.

A calm gathering

The Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes and Rhône regional prefecture has set up a perimeter prohibiting processions, parades and gatherings, because of “the recurrence of violent clashes and the high probability of counter-demonstration likely to generate disturbances to public order” and “that the risk of serious and proven disturbances to public order is real”.

However, the demonstration took place peacefully. After going up Rue Joseph Serlin, the demonstrators headed towards Quai Sarrail, then took the Chemin de la Guillotière, where the gathering ended without incident.

For two hours the demonstrators demanded support for the victims of Palestine as well as the release of Georges Abdallah, detained in for 39 years for complicity in the assassination of two diplomats in 1982.
