This Thursday is a day with large temperature differences depending on the time and regions. While the thermometer has gone negative in several places in the country on an axis going from the South-West to the North-East, Météo France is expecting temperatures of up to 18°C in the South-East in the afternoon .
Just before 8 a.m., as the sun rose, temperatures reached a national low. As The Weather Channel points out, this is the first day of fall where frosts are this widespread. For example, it was just under -1°C in Bergerac, in Dordogne. In Haute-Loire, in Combeaufontaine, it was almost -2°C.
Elsewhere, it was -1.6°C in Aurillac, in Cantal, around 7:15 a.m. In Romorantin, in Loir-et-Cher, it was almost -1°C at 8 a.m. Light frosts were also measured in Mulhouse (Haut-Rhin), Brive (Corrèze), Rodez (Aveyron) and Auxerre (Yonne). The geographical diversity of these stations testifies to the extent of the frosts this Thursday morning.
In the rest of the country, at the start of the day, temperatures oscillated between 0 and 10°C, with the northern regions of the country being in the high range. Corsica, Var and the Pyrénées-Orientales were exceptions with temperatures already approaching fifteen degrees.
Frosts already occurred a little before mid-September in France. On average in the country, the first frosts occur between October and November with a gradient from the North-East to the South-West, earlier in the North-East, later in the South-West.
The Mediterranean arc is distinguished by the first frosts which occur on average in December. The situation this Thursday morning therefore does not present any exceptional characteristics. It is on point with the standards, even locally a little late.
This Thursday afternoon, temperatures will be highest near the Mediterranean. It should be up to 18°C in Nice (Alpes-Maritimes). This is a value consistent with seasonal averages in the region. All along the seaside as well as in Corsica, it should be at least around fifteen degrees. This level should be approached in the South-West and in Occitanie. In the rest of the country, it should be at least ten degrees everywhere, except in the Grand Est.
