Alleged victim of theft and abuse of weakness by her housekeeper, Jeanne, a visually impaired octogenarian who lives in Saint-Alban (Haute-Garonne) north of , files a complaint and testifies to warn of the dangers that threaten the elderly isolated.

Jeanne, in her eighties, appears frail but this retiree of Senegalese origin does not let herself be intimidated. “I come from a large African family,” recalls this descendant of former president Léopold Sédar Senghor. Suffering from blindness due to diabetes, she denounces, despite her disability, the abuse of weakness to which, according to her, elderly people are often victims.

Alcohol and decorative objects disappear

An association provided her with a housekeeper since 2022, until her behavior aroused serious suspicion: “She was like a daughter to me, I even cooked little dishes for her,” she says about her cleaning lady on sick leave since January. The octogenarian, who lives alone in Saint-Alban (Haute-Garonne), quickly notices that her valuables are disappearing: “Every day I discover that she stole something from me: I had two dish sets, They disappeared. She stripped me,” she says, very affected. Did the housekeeper keep a copy of Jeanne's home? Likely.

The grandmother cites, among other things, the disappearance of all her jewelry, “what hurts me the most is for my engagement ring”, her household linen, three busts and an African ebony mask – a precious heritage family -, all his champagne on board, as well as jars of mixed rum that the old lady prepares for her nurses. The losses do not stop there: her freezer, containing exotic dishes received by the retiree, was emptied twice. Distraught, the octogenarian says she found doors that were normally locked mysteriously open: “strangely I found myself with an old, dilapidated lawnmower in my garage even though mine was new.”

“They were carroting us”

In addition to the stolen items, Jeanne suspects the association that employs the housekeeper of abusive billing. “They were carping us,” she accuses. She remembers a scene that raises questions: “They asked me for 150 euros for entry, I refused while asking to leave me the invoice justifying it, but finally two days later, the same person asked me :vou can't give 50 euros?“The head of the association would also have demanded the payment of services already honored by Jeanne. A big outburst of anger from the grandmother put an end to their collaboration.

On September 11, determined to obtain justice, Jeanne filed a complaint with the Castelginest gendarmerie and drew up an inventory of the missing objects. The investigation is continuing. When contacted, the association did not respond to requests for clarification. Jeanne, with courage, testifies publicly to prevent others from suffering such injustices, calling for increased vigilance for the protection of the elderly and vulnerable.
