The tragedy took place around 3:40 p.m., this Wednesday, November 13 afternoon. A seventy-two year old woman and her husband were cycling towards Escatalens, on the D813 in Montech (Tarn-et-Garonne). The septuagenarian was mowed down by a motorist, arriving from behind, according to La Dépêche du Midi. She succumbs to her injuries.
According to firefighters, the impact would have been very violent. The victim was found unconscious and in cardiac arrest. At the scene of the accident, the rescue teams (13 firefighters from the Montech rescue center as well as the emergency teams from the SMUR (Mobile Emergency and Resuscitation Structure of Montauban) attempted to provide a cardiorespiratory massage to the cyclist. Nothing helps, the emergency doctor ends up pronouncing the death.
The victim's husband, originally from Castelsarrasin, was quickly taken care of by emergency services. Slightly injured, he escaped unhurt, but in a state of shock. According to La Dépêche du Midi, the 74-year-old man waited for the funeral directors to take care of his wife's body before a relative came to collect it.
The driver, aged 45, was declared unharmed by the emergency teams present at the scene of the accident and left there.
According to La Dépêche du Midi, the gendarmes of the community of brigades (COB) of Montech, with the reinforcement of a patrol from the PMO (motorized platoon) of Montauban, carried out observations to determine the circumstances of this fatal accident. The motorist's vehicle was reportedly immobilized.
