New law in operation today 12/11 changes PIX limit; transfer over R$ 200.01 are affected

Created to ensure greater practicality for Brazilians who need to make payments quickly, the PIX allows money transfers to be made instantly. The payment format has undergone a series of changes over the years. This month, a new measure limiting payments above R$200 came into force.

According to FDR expert Lila Cunha, the modification was established as a way to ensure greater security during transactions carried out via PIX. This is because, by guaranteeing instant payment release, PIX was constantly being used to apply scams and fraud.

  • The update was announced by the Central Bank of Brazil (BCB);
  • The institution is responsible for defining rules on payment methods made available by Brazilian banks;
  • As of this November, payments via PIX will have a value limit if transfers are made on unauthorized devices;
  • This includes everything from smartphones to tablets and notebooks, for example;
  • Now, to make payments over R$200, the device will need to be properly registered with the institution;
  • This process must be carried out using the institution's application and has different rules for each bank;
  • In addition, a ceiling was also set for daily transactions;
  • In total, it will only be possible to transfer up to R$1,000 per day if the device is not registered;
  • It is worth remembering that this limitation will not be required on devices that have already been registered;
  • Another noteworthy point is that the rule only applies to new devices;
  • In other words, if you already use your smartphone to make payments via PIX, no additional registration will be necessary.
