ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) – After trudging through a somewhat gloomy weekend, the Stateline welcomed sunshine back to the fold Monday, and a repeat performance appears to be in the cards Tuesday.
High pressure’s presence in the region will keep our skies clear overnight, though it will allow for temperatures to cool rather quickly. Temperatures are likely to dip slightly below freezing, which will actually be a bit cooler than normal for once.
However, sunshine’s dominance along with a wind shift to the southeast should be enough to allow temperatures to stage a nice recovery. Highs Tuesday are to top out around 54°.
We‘ll see a few more clouds Tuesday night, but the real increase in cloud cover will occur as we go through our Wednesday. By midday, clouds take up the majority of the Stateline‘s airspace, but sunshine won’t likely be entirely absent. Temperatures once again are headed for around 54° Wednesday.
Eventually, the clouds will begin to squeeze out showers. They’ll be scattered at first, beginning around or slightly before the dinner hour, then becoming more widespread as the evening goes on. A steady rain could very well continue into the predawn hours of Thursday.
A few showers may even linger into early Thursday, though it‘s likely we’ll dry out rather quickly as the day wears on.
While this system won‘t be a drought buster, every bit of rain we get surely helps. Computer modeling suggests that while rainfall amounts won’t be overly impressive, most of us could end up with between a quarter and a half inch of rain.
We‘ll end the workweek and enter the weekend on a fine note. Friday‘s to bring sunshine’s return along with the return of 60° temperatures. Despite more cloudiness on Saturday, we’ll reach the lower 60s, and a third straight day of 60°+ temperatures is in the cards on Sunday, though chances for a few showers will enter the picture later in the day.
