- The media group CH Media is discontinuing the six regional Today portals with immediate effect.
- CH Media said the portals had increased reach, but had not achieved the necessary sales in the highly competitive online market.
- It goes on to say that a social plan is in place for employees.
Due to the discontinuation of the six regional platforms, 34 redundancies will be announced in the editorial and marketing departments. According to the announcement, 22 employees can be offered connection solutions at CH Media.
2015 first Today portal in Eastern Switzerland
In the announcement, CH Media speaks of “lack of profitability and lack of perspective” as the reason for the end. The first Today portal launched in Eastern Switzerland in 2015. The regions of Central Switzerland, Aargau, Zurich, Bern and Solothurn were then added.
“Of course we did everything we could to have to lay off as few colleagues as possible. “We very much regret that painful personnel measures are unavoidable,” said Florian Wanner, Head of Regional Electronic Media at CH Media, in the statement.
Reference to news portal Watson
For readers of the platforms FM1Today, ArgoviaToday, BärnToday, PilatusToday as well as ZüriToday and 32Today, the end in the morning came as a surprise: the portal’s operation was stopped on November 12th, it was said – and there was obvious reference to the news portal watson.ch, which is also owned by CH Media.
