It was also the first official ceremony of the new youth municipal councilors of Chartres. Girded with their elected official sash, received the same morning, they attended the commemoration alongside young volunteers from the Universal National Service (SNU), young firefighters and students from the global defense and security class. from Sainte-Marie College.
“Duty of gratitude, lucidity and hope”
A municipal youth councilor opened the ceremony by reading an extract from Freedom, for what purpose? by Georges Bernanos. Two young volunteers from the SNU took his place at the microphone to carry the message of the French Union of Combatant Associations.
Guillaume Kasbarian was the spokesperson for Sébastien Lecornu, Minister of the Armed Forces, and Jean-Louis Thieriot, Minister Delegate to the Minister of the Armed Forces and Veterans Affairs, reading their message evoking the “duty of gratitude, lucidity and 'hope' left by all those who died for France. After laying the wreaths, he relighted the Flame of Remembrance in the company of a young firefighter.
