In between forging an agreement in Ghent, Petra De Sutter (Green) turns to who she considers her “American sisters.” In the photo, De Sutter poses with a number of colleagues with his arms folded, accompanied by a heart and the text ‘You are not alone‘. The Instagram story has gone viral on social media in recent days after it was spread by American celebrities such as Lena Dunham and Hollywood actor Pedro Pascal, who reaches 8.5 million followers on Instagram. They see it as an expression of support from Europe after Donald Trump’s victory in the presidential elections.

Further research shows that De Sutter’s Instagram story involves a form of recycling, entirely in line with the ecologists’ program. The images prominently feature Sarah Schlitz of Ecolo, who had to resign as State Secretary for Equal Opportunities last year. This indeed concerns footage from 2022, when the US dismantled federal abortion rights.
A similar video from the Finnish and Norwegian Greens at the time was also picked up again by Pedro Pascal. De Sutter thanked the Chilean-American actor on Instagram for spreading her “important message” again. “American sisters, you are not alone!,” she writes. “We stand with you.” A composite of the three videos has been viewed more than 15 million times on Tiktok.
