Watch a trailer for Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning, which opens in May
The two-minute teaser for Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning, features deep sea dives, fiery battle scenes, and high-intensity chases in the action-packed franchise. As usual, if something can explode, it probably does, and there’s of course one scene showing Cruise dangling off the side of a flying plane. At the clip’s end, Cruise’s character, Ethan Hunt, shares an important message: “I need you to trust me one last time.”
Christopher McQuarrie, who has directed the last three installments, helmed Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning. The film will hit theaters on May 23. It was originally slated for 2022 but underwent multiple delays due to Covid lockdowns and the SAG strike.
Angela Bassett, who starred as Erika Sloane in the sixth installment Mission: Impossible – Falloutalso returns for the final film. Other returning cast members include Simon Pegg, Ving Rhames, Hayley Atwell, Vanessa Kirby, Pom Klementieff, and Henry Czerny. Actors joining the franchise with the new film include Hannah Waddingham, Katy O’Brian, Nick Offerman and Tramell Tillman.
In the last installment Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part Onea Russian submarine is attacked by its own torpedoes. Then a crucifix-shaped key that the sub’s chief officer once had in his possession goes missing. After the artificial intelligence program “The Entity” causes a slew of world-threatening events, the indefatigable Ethan Hunt attempts to solve the mission. By the film’s end, Hunt nearly escapes from a train crash and realizes the Entity is located on an old Russian Submarine, a likely hint at the synopsis of the upcoming installment.
In an Instagram post Monday, Cruise shared a poster of Mission : Impossible – The Final Reckoningwith the caption, “Every choice has led to this.”
