ORF-Moderator Peter Nidetzky is dead. He died at the age of 84. Nidetzky, born on June 5, 1940 in Vienna, was particularly known as the head of the Vienna recording studio for the wanted program “File number XY … unsolved” known.

He also gained fame as a co-commentator on the ORF live broadcast of the first moon landing. The ORF reported non-stop on the “world event” for 28 hours.

Peter Nidetzky has two children: his daughter Katharina is Chancellor Karl Nehammer married. He also postponed the exploratory talks on Monday to be with his family.

From March 1968 to December 2002, ORF was a co-production partner of the ZDF program “Aktenzeichen XY… unsolved.” As a successor to Teddy Podgorskiwho was later promoted to director of the ORF, Peter Nidetzky took over the management of the recording studio in Vienna for a period of 31 years.

From this he announced search reports from the police and tips from spectators from Austria. He was also head of teletext at ORF until his retirement in 2000.

Weißmann: “Pioneer of the ORF”

ORF General Director Roland Weissmann paid tribute to the deceased in a broadcast on Monday as a “true pioneer of Austrian broadcasting who played a key role in shaping the ORF over decades.” With his work and his versatility, Nidetzky won the trust of viewers and made television history.

Horse fan

Nidetzky was a horse fan and was involved in equestrian sports. Once a year Nidetzky organized the Horse Festival in the Vienna Stadthalle. The presenter also published several books on the subject of equestrian sports: Horse and rider 75/76. The Austrian yearbook for equestrian sports (1976), Riding in Austria (1977) and published in 1991 Equestrian sport in Austria.

Until 2001, Nidetzky was President of the State Association for Riding and Driving in Lower Austria as well as Federal Representative for Show Jumping in the Federal Association for Riding and Driving in Austria (FENA).
