We are no longer too used to having cold. This drop in temperatures will therefore make us very funny. But let us say it straight away: this phenomenon will not be exceptional. It will even be completely within the normal range for mid-November.

A little cold snap will therefore hit , the first notable of the seasonas we explained, from this Monday, November 11, 2024, throughout the week. The cause is a cold drop, “a pocket of very cold air located at an altitude of more than 5,000 m”, which will settle over the country, bringing cooler temperatures, but also precipitation.

Peak expected between Wednesday and Friday

The peak of this phenomenon is expected between Wednesday and Friday, as meteorologist Guillaume Séchet told us. In the early morning, according to Météo France, we will have temperatures close to zero in the eastern regions, or even almost negative in certain places. In the rest of the country, you should expect minimums of between 5 and 10°C.

This is also what the European weather model ECMWF (used by Météo France) predicts, as shown in the different maps below between Monday afternoon and Friday morning. There is a 6 hour delta between each card.

According to the European model, the areas affected by the cold will mainly be located in the north-east of the country and the Rhône valley (if we obviously exclude the mountainous regions). To a lesser extent, the center of the country will also be affected.

According to the French Arpege model, we could experience colder temperatures, even negative, in Alsace, Jura, Lorraine and Champagne.

Up to -5°C in the east?

But some weather models predict temperatures a few degrees below zero. This is the case of the Swiss-MRF model (Switzerland), which expects -5°C in Meurthe-et- on Thursday, and values between -3°C and zero in a good northeastern quarter.

This cold offensive could even reach the Centre, , Pays-de- and regions.

These forecasts should, however, be taken with caution, since it is difficult, given the movement of the cold drop, to precisely determine the temperatures four days before the deadline.
