A day earlier in Lokeren she had to deal with bad luck, today Ceylin del Carmen Alvarado (FENIX Deceuninck) put the finishing touches in the Superprestigecross in Niel. The Dutch took her fourth victory of the season, her third victory in a row in Niel.
“I felt good. Sunday was bad, so I said to myself: now I’m going to make short work of it,” said winner Ceylin del Carmen Alvarado. “Although I didn’t expect to have such a big gap so quickly.”
Ceylin del Carmen Alvarado simply rode faster than the assembled competition from the start. In the mud cross, she quickly had a decisive gap with her compatriot Lucina Brand, who had back problems (a so-called floating rib), a problem with which she had stood up and which hindered her breathing.
Italian Sara Casasola suffered bad luck: a chain problem knocked her back, but she managed to return and compete with Brand for second place.
Lucinda Brand suffered a flat rear tire on the penultimate lap, but still managed to take second place. Casasola paid the price for her pursuit work at the beginning of the cross and had to settle for fourth place.
Our compatriot Norbert-Riberolle, who rode a strong final, managed to finish third. “I often have a hard time in the first round, but I always believe in it until the end. I like these kinds of races, real crosses, not like the European Championships in Spain: that looked like a road race on a cross bike. Give me mud.”
