Nearly a thousand people attended the commemoration of the Armistice of the Great War this Monday, November 11 in Alès.
Nearly a thousand people, citizens and elected officials, gathered this Monday, November 11 in Alès, square Verdun, in front of the city's war memorial, on the occasion of the traditional commemoration of the Armistice of November 11, 1918 , ending the First World War.
A “piece” of the Flame of the Unknown Soldier
A ceremony marked by the advent of a small candle, carried by a group of adolescent members of the municipal youth council and the Universal National Service, previously lit from the tomb of the Unknown Soldier under the Arc de Triomphe, in Paris.
Thus honoring those who fell for France during the Great War, but also during all the other conflicts which have marked the country since, the ceremony, this commemoration wants to be placed under the sign of “hope” for the younger generations, at a time when war is once again hitting Europe and “where certain powers call into question international law”according to the words of the Minister of Defense read by the sub-prefect of Alès Émile Soumbo.

The ceremony ended in music with a cover of Know how to love by Florent Pagny, played by the Harmonie Alès Cévennes orchestra.
