MET Eireann have warned temperatures are set to plunge to 0C tonight as a colder blast takes over.
However, despite the cold snap it looks set to remain dry with “rainfall amounts fairly small.”
High pressure will allow for a mostly dry and bright start to this week with some cloud developing as the week goes on.
Giving the promising outlook, Met Eireann’s Aoife Kealy said: “High pressure is back to us so that’s going to bring some dry and bright weather for the early days of this week.
“As the week goes on though it is going to turn a bit cloudier with the odd bit of light rain and drizzle though rainfall amounts will be fairly small.”
The foggy and misty start to today will clear as the morning goes on leaving a dry and bright day with sunny spells.
Highest temperatures today will sit between 9C to 13C before they drop to nearly freezing tonight.
The Met Eireann forecaster warned: “Mist and fog will form once again though turning dense in some areas.
“A touch of frost is possible with lows of 0C to 4C, a little colder in some inland parts.”
And weather expert Alan O’Reilly warned that, while it is too far out to tell, we could be set for a continuation of this cold snap.
Posting on X (formerly Twitter) he explained: “Cooler airmass by end of week but the real colder air is delayed on latest GFS chart until the following week and that far away means low confidence.”
Met Eireann warn ‘unsettled weather’ is in store
And Met Eireann also warned it looks set to turn “colder again” come the weekend.
However, tomorrow temperatures will be back up to highs of 7C to 11C during the day tomorrow.
It will be another dry and sunny day with just the odd spot of drizzle along western coasts.
Fog and mist from the morning may linger into the afternoon before more patches form overnight.
Temperatures will drop again for the night with lows of 2C to 5C.
These temperatures will be milder in the west and northwest thanks to cloud coverage.
And Met Eireann said: “It will turn cloudier in the west and north overnight with isolated patches of light rain and drizzle developing.”
MIDWEEK OUTLOOK
